Union City Chamber of Commerce Hosts Taiwan Director General Wu for Inaugural Visit to Union City

Director General Wu, and representatives of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco, the City of Union City, and the Union City Chamber of Commerce presentation on Union City’s community, economy, and Taiwanese business community at Union City Hall.

UNION CITY, Calif. — August 24, 2026 — The Union City Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the City of Union City, welcomed Director General Wu of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco to Union City on Monday, August 24, for an inaugural visit highlighting Union City’s Taiwanese business community and opportunities for economic and cultural exchange.

The visit began at Union City Hall, where Director General Wu and his delegation were welcomed by Union City officials, Chamber leadership, and other local representatives. Acting Economic Development Manager Kyle Weddington provided an overview of Union City, its economy, and the substantial number of Taiwanese businesses operating within the community. The City also presented Director General Wu with a proclamation commemorating the visit.

Director General Wu and his delegation join Chamber Board members and Union City officials at Re-Teck for a facility tour and program hosted by Mr. David Liang, VP BD / Re-Teck Global Operations, and Mr. Edward Kayden, Deputy General Manager / VP BD.

Afterwards, Director General Wu and his delegation joined Chamber Board members and Union City officials at Re-Teck for a facility tour and program with leaders of Taiwanese businesses in Union City and Alameda County Assessor Phong La.

The visit highlighted the significant role Taiwanese businesses play in Union City’s local economy and created new opportunities for dialogue between City officials and several major businesses operating in the community.

“This visit gave us an important opportunity to highlight the depth of Union City’s Taiwanese business community while creating new connections between government, business, and the Director General’s Office,” said Jim Navarro, President of the Union City Chamber of Commerce. “We are grateful to everyone who helped make the visit possible and look forward to building on the relationships established.”
